Precious Collective presents “Battle of the Pins”, a celebratory show in honour of the 5 years that the Precious Collective has been around.
It is also celebrating the fact that a Pin or Brooch has its own agency; an object in its own right that can reflect personality, politics, thoughts, feelings, messages … or anything the maker or wearer wants it to be !

I picked up my carving tools and just started cutting, digging and sanding away the balsa wood for hours in an almost meditative state. The process had no outcome in mind, just something to do to get moving again. Then came layer after layer of paint and varnish, followed by pigments that only reveal their true self when applied on a dark undercoat. Are they putting on a show, to hide the darkness underneath? Or can they only shine so bright because of the darkness underneath? Do we appreciate the good times in life more when we’ve also experienced darkness?
